Fishing is more than a pastime for Richard and Holly; it is a way to connect with nature, provide for their family, and create lasting memories. Richard treasures the calm and focus that fishing brings, while Holly loves sharing the experience with their children, appreciating the natural beauty of Vancouver Island, and ensuring they fish responsibly to protect future generations. Their kids have inherited their passion for fishing, and the family enjoys making memories on the water while passing down knowledge and traditions.
Most of their fishing takes place in the Southern Gulf Islands, taking advantage of the incredible fisheries close to home. Winters are spent chasing chinook in the crisp waters around Ladysmith and Sidney, while spring brings trips to Renfrew for halibut. In the summer, they target salmon and lingcod around Barkley Sound and Nanaimo, with plans to explore new waters on the West Coast, including Nootka, Rivers Inlet, and Hakai Passage.
Both Richard and Holly have a deep love for salmon fishing. Richard thrives on the thrill of winter chinook, drawn to the fight of these powerful feeders and the challenge of finding them. Holly enjoys the excitement of reeling in feisty chinook and the satisfaction of a successful fishing day.
On their boat, the Hoeks rely on Gibbs Fishing products. Richard’s go-to setup includes Oki Big Shooter and Highliner Guide Series flashers in Green Phantom and other Phantom patterns, paired with Skinny G spoons like Trailhead or Wee G spoons in matching colors. Holly is a big fan of Skinny G spoons as well, appreciating their consistent success and the quality Gibbs gear provides.
Richard and Holly bring a unique energy to the Gibbs Pro Team, blending teamwork, family values, and a passion for sharing their love of fishing with others. Their dedication and enthusiasm make them an incredible asset to the team.
