Zack Kelleher’s passion for fishing began before he could even remember. Growing up in Bellevue, Washington, Zack was immersed in the world of fishing thanks to his dad and grandfather. Early mornings spent chasing salmon, halibut, and other species across the Puget Sound and Washington coast became the foundation of his life. At just seven years old, Zack got his first boat and spent his summers relentlessly pursuing anything that would bite.
By 19, Zack achieved a major milestone, earning his United States Coast Guard Master Endorsed Captain’s License, making him one of the youngest to ever hold that credential. Starting his career working on charter boats at 16, Zack is now forging his path as a captain and guide, continuing his journey into 2025.
For Zack, fishing isn’t just a sport; it’s a way of life. He’s equally captivated by the tranquility of a calm morning trolling the Puget Sound and the thrill of offshore pursuits. What drives him is the endless puzzle of fishing—predicting tides, weather, forage patterns, and barometric pressure to find and entice his target species. Sharing these experiences with friends or making new connections on the water is another element that keeps Zack hooked.
Zack’s home waters are the Puget Sound, where he primarily targets salmon and lingcod when the seasons align. He also frequents Washington’s rugged coastline, with Neah Bay being his favorite destination due to its unique fisheries and dramatic landscape. When it comes to favorite catches, Zack’s heart is with large king salmon, finding joy in the challenge of enticing these apex predators at the height of their feeding mode.
